A Twist Of Fate

The Tale of a Vampire Enforcer

Chapter 1

He had watched her from a far for 3 months now. Finally he had found a woman with the characteristics he desired; intelligence, spirit, fight, strength, beauty....he was quite pleased with his prize.

"A special reward for centuries of loyal service...... this will please him" he thought. He knew every aspect of her life..... everything she had ever seen or done since birth had been reported to him as he watched her from the shadows Now he observed as his final scene of his plans went into play......

"Good, soon she will be under my control" he muttered.

Stars and the full moon gleamed sharply in the night sky. The humidity was gone and there was a slight chill to the evening air. A rare summers night perfect for a brisk walk. Changing her plans she bid good night to her friends and began the walk home. The night air cleared her head after the smoky intimacy of the bistro and its heavy red wine. The night streets enfolded her, sheltered her from the eyes of others, protecting her in a private world of dreaming darkness.

Absorbed in the night and her own thoughts, she did not hear the car approach. As it slowed, she turned to see it stop and a door open. Just as she was about to speak, from behind and a cloth covered her face. Perfumed vapors poured up her nose and into her mouth as she tried to scream. Striking out, her nails raked across a face behind her; the cloth was gone and the chilled night air poured into her lungs. Blindly she ran, away from the car.. away from it all..

The darkness shrouded him as he flew over her probing her mind... body. He quivered with delight as he reached into her mind and emotions.... This was the part he enjoyed the most, it was so much like a cat and mouse game. He experienced the reactions of her body and emotions as she did. He spoke into her mind.

"Yes, go this way"

And without her even being aware, he was leading her exactly where he wanted her. Down the street she recognized the woods of Lee Park, those normally threatening shadows now seemed all too welcome a refuge from what lay behind her. As she ran she could hear her pursuers and looking back she saw the two figures close behind her. Calming herself as she ran, she began to pick up her daily running pace, moving into the rhythm her body adjusted to the strain and began to accelerate. Elated, no need to risk the woods, no need to fear, she could outrun these Bastards any day! Pulling from a side street she saw the car, cutting her off from escape once more. She almost broke down in despair, but instead increased her pace, moving onto the jogging trail. In an instant she was enveloped in the blackness of the park.

The pounding of pursuing feet was still behind her and far too close. Moonlight showed a branch in the trail and she ran to the left. Too bright to hide safely in the shadows, she continued to run. With each branch in the path she looked back, no longer could she see her hunters; slowing briefly she listened. No sound betrayed another presence behind her. Relief flooded her body and she leaned against a tree for support and to get her bearings. She had no idea where in the park she was, but this was certainly no time or place to risk waiting, and she began to run again. Her eyes now fully accustomed to the moonlight and began to pick up details, she realized that she was deep on the park. Just ahead was a sign, she stopped briefly and found the direction of the main entrance to the park. Relieved, she turned to the right, down the path to safety and directly into a pair of powerful arms, trapping her in an instant, pinning her own arms to her side.

"Well, well, look what we have here" drawled a low voice. "Looks like the lady is in a rush to get somewhere." "What he matter Miss? You do not wish to stay and play with us? An evil laugh poured out from the massive chest where her face was buried. "Give me a hand, fellas"

She struggled to break free, but the arms that held her were so tight she could hardly breathe. Someone from behind seized her legs and she felt herself being carried away toward the dark glooming uncertainty of the limo. As she tried to wiggle out of the grip of these two apes, she felt a prick and soon everything was swimming in her head. She tried to struggle but her body felt like heavy rubber, and then her surroundings disappeared.

When she awoke, she noticed that she was in a dimly candle lit room. As she gazed about the room, she gasped as her eyes drank in the beauty of her surroundings. One wall of the room were covered in a rich dark paneling with exquisite tapestry drapes of gold and burgundy hanging over the windows. In one corner there was the heavy canopy bed that she had awoken in.......covered with the same heavy drapes hanging from each side. Across the room she saw what appeared to be a Japanese style bath, the room smelled of old wood and strange spices. Along one wall was the largest fireplace she had ever seen, so large that except for the fire burning within she could have hidden from her abductors in it. By the corner close to the fireplace was an oak table with two chairs, it was covered with intricately carved figures, lovingly created by hand.

Shortly two old women entered the room. She could not understand what they were saying, they spoke in a tongue she had never heard before. They motioned for her to get into the bath, once there they bathed, powered, and perfumed her entire body, then rubbed her body head to toe, with spices.

They then produced the most beautiful black silk dress she had ever seen. The dress was tight fitting down to her tiny waist with a low cut neckline, that showed her ample breasts. These women helped her into the dress gently, carefully as not to tear the delicate material. At the waist it plunged into a V both in front and back, it had a full skirt that went to her ankles and swished as she walked. This dress fit as if it were designed and made just for her. These women with patience and what seemed to be a lot of experience then fixed her long brown hair into an upsweep with only a few tendrils falling softly about her face and shoulders. As quickly and quietly as they had entered the room, they departed. Leaving her alone once again, to explore the dark richly decorated room she had awaken to find herself in. She looked behind the heavy burgundy drapes for a window, hoping to get her bearing and figure out where she had been taken. But to her dismay there was not one window in the entire room. She walked to the door and quietly listened for strange sounds. Hearing only silence she tried to open the door. As she reached for the handle she heard heavy footsteps coming down the hall. Her heart began to beat wildly, she could hardly breathe. She ran toward the bed to hide but as she reached the edge of the bed, she felt the cool air coming in from the hall. As the door opened, she tried not to look at them but she could not help herself. A scream froze in her throat as she recognized the two men who had taken her from the street.

That night almost seemed like a lifetime ago when she walked the street on her way home after the concert. Why did I not ride home with my friends?" She thought to herself. "Now, I do not even know how many days ago that was or how long I was unconscious."

Feeling famished she thought. "I must have been out at least one whole day."

Saying nothing to her, one of the men brought in a heavy serving tray and walked over to the corner table with it. The the other one stood at the door preventing her much desired escape. Setting it down on the table he motioned her to eat, as he pulled the chair out for her to be seated. He then silently turned and walked out the door. As soon as the two had walked out and closed the door she ran over to the table to discover all her favorite foods......

"I wonder how they knew?" She whispered. She was so hungry she did not even care how they had gotten the information, the aroma was driving her insane with hunger. She sat down and pulled the chair up to enjoy this scrumptious feast. She filled her plate with tender lobster, juicy steak cooked to perfection, fresh sweet peas dripping in a rich cheese sauce, and a stuffed baked potato. As she began to eat she considered all the possible outcomes for her situation.

"What is to become of me?" She gasped.

Chapter 2

He always left threw his attic window. It was high enough up and there were no street light at that end of his home. It was a cool clear night and even though the he was not affected by temperature he always wore a long black coat...... he liked the sound it made in the wind. Sometimes when someone heard it far below he would smile to himself when the curious mortal would look up into the night and see nothing he was well above the street lights and he had favorite trees he visited that gave him concealment as he watched the mortals walk below busy doing mortal things. Someone caught his eye and he opened his mouth and exposed his tongue for this helped him taste the sent of his prey.....

Just as she was finishing her meal, she heard the door creak open. She turn just in time to see a dark figure enter the room, quietly like a shadow. A strange feeling came over her, like a cloud settling in her mind calming her fears, relaxing her entire body.

And there he was. Not an old man but ageless. There was an air about him, like walking past a cobra knowing it will strike, just not knowing when. Maybe it was his dark ageless eyes. When she looked into his eyes she saw the thousand hunts he had partaken of in the past, seeing each one through his minds eye. She pondered on her lack of fear in these visions she knew they made her feel alive and strong and powerful, She could feel his hunger as he hunted down his quarry.

As he entered the room he spoke.

"Good evening, M'Dear, I do hope that the servants have made you more than comfortable?"

He glided toward her and leaned close to her. Her voice froze, she dared not to even breathe.

"He will be here soon, my mortal gift" He whispered in her ear.

He had also placed a suggestion in her mind that it was time to enjoy some fine wine, for he knew that the fruit of the vine always makes for a pleasurable reaction to the pallet, of his kind He produced a bottle and two beautiful cut crystal glasses.

"I do hope you like the Rothchilds finest" As he filled the two glasses, handing one to her.

"Let me toast to your beauty."

As he entered his Masters abode he sensed a mortal heart beat and the sent of a women.

"What is he up to now?" glancing down at his gold Rolex.

"It's not yet time to feed!" As he approached the first set of stairs he could sense his Creator's anticipation and pleasure. As he began to ascend the stairs, he again sensed the heart beat of the women it was steady and normal. A slight smile showed upon his pale lips, as he knew by this, she was under his power and not nervous, like a caught rabbit..

He thought of a time in his mind from the past. A night much like this one, hundreds of years ago, when he felt the renewing of his life as he lay dying. The pouring of his Masters soul into his own to sustain him. He remembered the slowing of his heart, the fear of what was to come, his death. Just as he felt his heart beat it's last, he and the sensation of falling.......falling into death's grip but he was spared the darkness as he felt his creator will him back to his body. He was saved from the endless light. And felt no more until the hunger woke him, the burning sensation, his Master was there to sustain him, as he offered his blood to cool the fire of this hunger.......He owed his life to the Master, and the Master never let him forget it for a moment. Yes, this is the anniversary of that night......600 years ago.

The Master caressed her neck as he whispered in her ear once more.

"And you are very beautiful, my sweet" He felt her smooth skin, as he inhaled the sent of cloves. The Master always had the servants rubbed the skin of their victims with the cloves after they bathed them. It was part of a ritual, he demanded it done before they were brought to him.

Her hair was brown with a reddish tint to it. The henna the old women used made it shine and dance with color in the candlelight.. The small tendrils framing her ravishing face. Looking into her eyes he noticed just how green they were. "rather like looking into two flawless emeralds" He thought to himself.

"My son shall soon be here, You are to be my gift to him" He leered at her like she was a prized piece of meat.

"This is the anniversary of a special night for him." He tilted his head and said.

"I hear him in the house now."

She craned her neck and listened. She could hear nothing.

"He shall not keep you waiting much longer, my dear"

He could feel her heart beat and smell her life's blood coursing through the veins closest to the surface of the skin, as he walked through the door he froze in his tracks. He inhaled sharply as his eyes drank in exquisiteness of her face. To him she looked like a goddess. He knew he was in love with her at that very moment. He felt the horror rise in him like bile, almost choking him. He knew what the Master expected him to do with her. But as he gaxed into her deep green eyes, he knew he could never kill her.

His Master looked on, with almost a perverted pleasure.

"Do with her as you will, she is yours after all...." as he left the room he not looking back.

"And do tidy up after your done" and was gone.

As the Master left the room, she felt the fog lift from her mind....leaving her clear headed once again. Only now, she had no recollection of anything before this evening. She looked to the young man standing before her. He was ruggedly handsome. His hair was dark and long, he wore it pulled back and fastened at the nape of his neck. His eyes were dark brown....as she looked deep into his eyes, she could not shake the feeling that she knew this man all of her life. She knew he was no ordinary man......she could see aristocratic breeding in his face....the strong jaw....the proud nose....those perfect lips. The desire to lean in and kiss those lips, loosing her soul to him in his kisses, was almost more than she could bear.

"Good Evening, My Lady.....I do hope Lucious has made you comfortable" He spoke smiling at her.

"My name is Torsten" Bowing deeply. "I am the first son of Lucious"

"M'Lord, My name is Elizabeth" Smiling, as she curtsies extending her hand. "Yes, quite comfortable, Thank you, Sir."

Taking her hand Torsten gently kisses it and then pulls her to him....looking deep into her eyes.

"Would you like to see the gardens.....they are quite beautiful by moonlight." He smiles as he wraps her arm around his and sweeps her out of the room.

"Our family built this castle a thousand years ago. It has stood the ravages of time as well as war."

"I hope you will be happy here, Elizabeth." Stopping briefly to kiss her on the cheek. "I know I will be much happier with you here to keep me company"

He opened the door to the garden....holding it open for her to walk through. The fragrance of the roses drifting through the night air. The crisp spring air filled her lungs. She could felt the goosebumps breaking out on her arms......her nipples becoming hard under the thin silk of the dress. She shivered slightly.

"You are cold, Here" He said, taking of his jacket and placing it around her shoulders. "I do not notice the cold nor the heat...no one in the family does."

Looking up to the full moon, wondering where she came from, she looks to Torsten. "Sir, may I ask you a question?"

"Yes, Of course my dear, you may."

"Why do I have no memories before this place?"

"You were in an accident, not far from these castle walls, you were unharmed, but apparently the shock was too much for you. You were found by a local farmer and brought to us. Your car was distroyed...it seems you were thrown from it before it went over the cliff." He hated not telling her the truth, but he knew if she were aware of what he was she would fear him and he wanted her love not her fear. As they walked through the garden talking she could sense something different about him, but she could not put her finger on was it was exactly. He made her feel safe and she clung to that. Somehow she knew that he would never let any harm come to her.

The Master, Lucious made her feel cold and confused...she knew she did not like him. But this man, Torsten, made her whole body tingle. She did not understand these feelings or where they came from.

Torsten stopped and turned to face her, pulling her close to him.

"You are quite beautiful, My dear" Pressing his lips to hers, stirring a passion she had never before known.

Blushing, she said. "Thank you, sir." She could feel the effects of his kiss warming her entire body.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a large man approach and wait....."Torsten" she whispered, as she looked to the intruder. As Torsten turned to face him, the man spoke.

"Lord Torsen, Lucious requests your presence in his study. Some sort of emergency. He instructed me to return the young lady to her room"

"Very well, Thomas, give us a moment please"

"Yes, Sir" Thomas said as he walked back into the castle.

"I am sorry, Elizabeth. I had hoped to spend the entire night with you......but business calls. Taking her hand and placing a tender kiss upon it.

"I will see you tomorrow evening, if you have need of anything, Thomas will get it for you. So you will not need to leave your room and wander the castle. We have had people get lost here. Not even I know every hallway in this castle."

He kissed her lips tenderly once again and when she opened her eyes he was gone and Thomas was standing there waiting to show her the way to her room. "This way, M'Lady" Opening the door for her.

As she walked into her room, she heard Thomas say. "If you need of anything just let me know, and I will get it for you." Pointing to the intercom system by the door. Silently, he closed the door and was gone. She walked to the door and tried it.
"Locked" She muttered under her breath. "Great, just Great!"

Turning, she noticed changes in the room.....a desk had been brought in with a very nice computer system sitting on top of it. Beside the desk was a rack filled with all sorts of programs and music on compact disk. In the corner was a large wardrobe, the door swung open displaying several exquisite dresses....with shoes to match in the bottom.

Feeling restless, she tried the door again....taking a closer look at it....she notices a tiny keyhole....searching through her hair she locates a bobby pin. Removing it she tries to pick the lock with it. after several tries, she hears the tumblers click quietly inside of it. Turning the knob, she opens the door just wide enough to peek out. Seeing no one in the hall, she lips quietly out, and walks down the hall past several doors.....from inside one door, she hears muffled cries for help.

Opening the door, she stares in horror as she sees Lucious, bent over a teenage boy, with his hand covering the boy's mouth, his face buried in the boy's neck.

Hearing the door, Lucious looks up....blood dripping from his lips.....his eyes gold and inhuman. He smiled at her, reveling his sharp fangs, covered with blood.

Her mind, unable to comprehend what she was seeing, she faints, and collapses on the floor.
